Jump Rope is a Great Way to Tone and Define Your Body

Jumping rope or rope skipping is a fantastic way to tone and condition your body. It is an anaerobic exercise. Also, it is a high-impact exercise that should be done with proper shoes. The great thing about jump or skip rope is that it can be done solo. You can do it almost everywhere. Even if you do this exercise for 5 minutes or so, you can feel this exercise from your head down to your feet. You can do a variation of jumping on both legs. Then, alternate it with jumps on each leg. I like to simulate like I am skiing when I am skipping on the rope. It prepares your legs for the rigors of skiing. You can also go very fast for 20 seconds and then slow down for 10 seconds. This is interval training on the jump rope.

There are many variations and types of jump ropes available. I enjoy the leather skip rope because you can go faster and it has a rhythm when you skip on it. It is like driving an automatic car. Once you get started it is straightforward. You can go longer on the leather ropes. Many of them have wooden handles that have bearings to make the exercise as smooth as possible. There are also weighted skip ropes. The handles have weights in them. Usually, it is about 1-3 pounds. You can feel your forearms get sore as you do more skipping or jumping on the weighted rope. But, the best one seems to be the regular skip rope. They are usually regular rope and even have plastic handles. Some are even toy skip ropes. These are great because it is like driving a car with a stick shift. You will need more control of the skipping rope - nothing is automatic. The skipping motion on these simple ropes takes effort. For me (and many others), you get more of a workout from these ropes. You can feel it in your forearms, legs, lungs, and heart. Now, I enjoy jumping rope. One of the best ways I jump or skip rope is by using an imaginary rope. It is a great way to warm up and even cool down. It is like a ballistic stretch that thoroughly warms or cools your legs and arms.

Jump rope is a fun activity that you can do as part of your regular exercise routine. You can also do this exercise as a cool down after working out with weights.
